Hi all, is there anyone out there that could shed some light on this old beast, the engine is a basic Coventry Victor Midget engine M02. With MA103 on the engine block, it’s called a Coventry victor super speed 8 outboard sitting, I do have the Midget and the ss8 parts books and manuals, but what I’m looking for is things like, Is it a common outboard and around what year is it and are other ones still about.

Hello Keith, I am in Vancouver, BC and saw one of these so that makes at least two. I have two inboard style Coventry midgets, one water cooled and one air cooled. I don't think the outboards were that common but then some made it to Canada eh. Cheers.....Joe |

hello keith/joe i to have the same engine a ma-01 and know of another also. i believe it to be from around 1930 to 40 as they stopped making them by 1957.keith you said that you had the manuals are they originals and is there a workshop manual, my engine was originally in pieces and i have rebuilt it but have had problems with the timing as there are numerous timing settings that could be used, would appreciate any help either of you could supply.by the way do your engines run? look forward to a reply regards des mason |

I have the user manuals and parts books for the SS6 & SS8 and the Midget engine all original,
have you got the inboard or outboard setup?
And yes i can run you through the timing, without the manuals.

yes mine is the outboard model,the same as your first photo.Does it run?.looking forward to the instructions for the timing mark settings kind regards Des |

I've got cylinders and pistons for a Coventry Victor Vixen. Manual too. Left at a machine shop. The rest of the engine is supposed to be on Saltspring Island somewhere. |

"Does it run", Des, all I can say is it better, its in good condition for its age, so far i have only put new rings in, all the rest looks ok.
I will have to resrt the carb and i have to work on the tank and the exhaust.
Des, No timing mark on this outboard, paints gap only, unless you engine is apart, post a pic i will see if i can help.

The Coventry Victor engines were used in the DisPro boats from about 1952 to the end ( 1958).
Contact the Paul D. at
www.disppearingpropellerboat.com - he has a wealth of info on these engines and has re-built a number of them.
He's been looking for heads for the engine lately but to no avail.

Thanks Miro, I did see this site before, but the Victor did not look like my one, but just had a look and its the big flywheel the gets in the way, plus its an outboard not an inboard but i will ask anyway.
The heads are the first to go on the victor engines. |

Hi Keith, I have just registerd and havea few oldies. I have that MA103 too, and have got it running . I have used a different mag but as the original has missig bits. theres no gas tank or steering tiller arrangement like you have. I was told this model was used on barges in the Islands duringg ww2.I my e-mail is [email protected] |

Hi, I have a MA103 which is in fair condition but ALL of the pipes servicing fuel, exhaust and water in / out are missing. Anyone able to give me guidance re the routing and connections necessary ?

Have a look at my one, it maybe an outboard but its all the same, water in from pump to one pipe in splits to two heads from the bottom, and out the top of the heads and splits into one pipe again an away.

Thanks for that, the green booklet must be a newer type one, I have seen these ones before, Three CV booklets came up on Ebay not long ago and went for about £30. |
