I've learned from the internet that the model C-1 was produced starting in 1915 and by 1923 Universal was making the model C-3.

My engine has a RICARDO head with a patent date of 1923. The head could have been added later, but it is painted the same color as the rest of the engine. I've been told that the RICARDO head is a high compression head. I found a Universal ad in a 1925 magazine where they talk about the new FLEXIFOUR engine with the new RICARDO head design. The picture in the ad looks a lot like my engine, but it looks newer and has some differences - like it has the transmission integral to the engine instead of a separate unit like mine.

I don't need to know the exact date, but I thought knowing it would help me locate a correct carb. I think the one on there now is from a Ford Model A. I think the carb should be a brass one.

Do you have or do you know of anyone with any of these Universal marine engines?
