Hello,
I have a RC16D from 1980. While replacing a retour diesel hose I pulled out the right injector a bit.
After assembling everything back and test started the engine I noticed that the exhaust air started to blow out between the injector and socket.
Does anyone know if there is a O ring to seal this leak?
At the end I pulled out the injector and checked for a seal but couldn't find any..
Is there another way to seal the leak?

Peter,I'm not familiar with a RC16D,but check the bottom of the injector bore as there may be a seal washer that needs decarbonising.In other words,loose carbon is not letting the injector fully seat.Paul |

I checked for a seal washer but there wasn't one, so I only guess how it worked before. I cleaned the deposits and tried again, but the problem persisted.
Then I went to the local tractor shop and bought a copper washer 2 mm thick that fit the opening and injector. I installed it and blowby dissapeared.
Seems like copper, when pressed between injector and injector bore adopts shape and seals the leak while metal against metal without copper inbetween doesn't seal.
The engine works like a clock now.

the rc 16 d uses a copper gasket at the base of the injector. if the gasket you have is erroded from exhaust leak , find a replacmet in copper and aniel it( soften it) use a torch and heat to almost red and then let cool . be sure the injector pocket is clean... no carbon or contaminate. do not ! scar or dig the surface, thighten the injector the spec of 15 ft lbs,, do not overtighten..... |
