I think the two inner cyl. are "charging" cyl. sort of like a compressor. The carb is in the middle up high. Maybe the inner two suck in and vaporize the gas and discharge to the two outter cyl.?? They seem to be connected via casting at the top. The inner charge the outter which would only require that there be a way to get rid of exhaust from the outter two, hence the exhaust valves at each end? Not positive, but it sure looks cool! It also looks like there is only cooling jackets on the outter two cyl. Having only twelve hp for such a large lump also is indicative of a twin?? Love to find one! |

There were a number of 2 cycle engines with charging cylinders used for oil field work. The most popular was the Reid, and it would be easy to adapt the idea into the engine above.
