I have a LAWSON, Type BM 848-2, Serial #11973. The plate indicates the Lawson Co. of Holstein, WIS. Any information about this engine will be welcome: year of manufacture, are there many like it, is it of museum interest, does it require ooil in the gas, etc.? It appears in good condition and complete.

I have a Lawson outboard that I am restoring. It looks to be about two or three hp. It is a four stroke, with a verl flat oil sump and a little piston oil pump driven by a little crank. I was told by the previous owner that the engine is a four stroke Tecumseh, with the OB parts added by Lawson. Tecumseh may have supplied parts, but the engine seems to have been designed from the beginning as an outboard, so i don't know how much credence to put in that. I have the engine disassembled now, and am cleaning each piece and looking for replacement stainless screws and bolts for re-assembly.
I am in Texas on Toledo Bend lake near Hemphill. Maybe we can help each other research this interesting bit of antique technology.

I have a 1956 Lawson 6 hp twin cylinder air cooled motor I would like to sell. It's a 4 stroke and it runs pretty well. Does anybody have any idea what it might be worth?
Thanks.

I have a LAWSON outboard, 1 cyl, 4 stroke air cooled trolling motor.I think its 1.5 hp or more .The# stamped on the crankcase is 7OB2938.The 7 could a Z.It has a pre WW 2 look to it, possibly 1946.I bought it because of its reputation as a reliable high altitude motor --which it was.no fouled plugs at 10000 ft.Is anybody interested ?
