Mama might not be so enthusiastic, but if I owned that Murray and Tregurtha, it would be sitting right beside the bed where I could reach out and pat it last thing every night and first thing every morning. |

The Murray and Tregurtha is a great engine. I love the open cranks! It appears to have a geared pump for water on the crankshaft,and then a camshaft driven pump via a crank(above the flywheel). What was this pump for, as I have a similar size of pump with the same connecting rod etc, which I thought might be an air/vacuum pump? |

Hello Everyone: I am trying to find and purchase a Murray and Tregurtha Engine for the restoration on a classic yacht I own. The yacht was built by Murray and Tregurtha in 1910 and the original documents and build sheet state that is would have a 30 to 50 HP 4 Cylinder with a 6.5 inch bore and 8 inch stroke. Ideally that is what I hope to find. I am also interested in buying any 1910-1918 4, 6, 8 or 12 cylinder marine engines of any make.

What a wonderful boat! I wish you luck finding the right engine, it won't be easy.
I couldn't help but notice that the image name was keewaydin. Is that the name of the boat? There is a camp Keewaydin near me in Vermont. A very old summer camp that also has locations in Canada. |

The boat's magnificent and you to be applauded for seeking a suitable engine. No point putting a flathead in a Bugatti!
Engines like the kind you want exist, but mostly at the bottom of bodies of fresh water! I suggest you talk to divers who like to salvage old stuff, preferably older divers and old water rats generally. In my experience, they know where everything sunk, and sometimes no one else does!
You might go so far as to find out what other vessels had the engine you seek and if any of them might be underwater where they can be reached. You might even find out what happened to the engine from your boat when it was removed. It's unlikely such a high quality engine in probably very good condition would be junked then. It probably was put in a workboat of some kind and who knows what happened after that.
