My R3M has a Stuart carburettor ( I think) and it is build in a little launch (4m) But it looks different from all the pics I have seen so far. The float chamber looks different. See attachment. Could someone tell me if it is a Stuart carb or something else? I also have some difficulties adjusting it: air / fuel mix. The mixture is to rich. The jet is a 34. Any tips? And last: I think I need a new needle. Does anybody know where to get one? It would be great if somebody can give me some info.

I would say it is a Stuart carb altho not one I have come across before. The plastic float is fairly modern and the hinge pin in the photo seems to be bent. This could cause the float to stick and give you a rich mixture. Before trying to locate a needle sort out the float operation.Afraid cannot help with a source for a new needle. You could try lapping it in gently with metal polish . |

Definately a Stuart Carb ....looks like it has seen better days .However it should be quite OK .Just put it back together with care .Wind in the air control until there is a gap of about 6mm .....this is a good starting point for adjustment. New needle ,either make one or as Mike said lapp in the original. |

Hello Mathijs - The carburretor you have there is what Stuart called the 'Stuart 1972' carb; I have one on a late R3MC; as with all Stuart carbs, fed with clean fuel (be sure to clean the filter in he banjo annually) they work very well. Regards, H. |

Hi, My Stuart Carb still has a way to rich fuel mix. In spite of all your tips and help (thanks for that though) I still can't find the solution . The needles suggested are to long or to thin. So I if anyone knows where I can get a new needle please let me know. Does anyone know if the 34 jet is the correct one for my carb? I notice that if I turn off the fuel, my engine runs perfect just before it runs out of fuel. As I see it it can only be the needle that doesn't completely closes of the fuel supply or the jet is to big. I have straightened the hinge pin. Thanks, Mathijs |
