Up to approximately 1910 the Bergius companies, on their Kelvin car and marine engines, used an ignition system with a low tension magneto and an in-cylinder arc make and break device operated by a one sided cam on the camshaft. The system was designed by Doc Murray who also designed the Arrol-Johnson and the Albion cars.
As I have just found a 3.5" bore poppet valve with the cam and holes for this LT system, I am interested in finding out any information on this Kelvin system. Can anyone help me please with obtaining drawings, sketches or photos specifically of this early Kelvin system? I suspect there are none but who knows.
Has anyone information of an existing Kelvin engine, earlier than No 1312, dated about 1911/12 apart from the one in Glasgow Transport Museum?

Hi George,
firstly congratulations on your find when you say its a 3.5 bore which one a model 3,6 or 12?
I have a model 3 with some noticable differences about it. I dont have a LT system but would be keen to have a look at yours
