I have an old Koban 1915 3 H.P. Racer Type Rowboat Motor in very good condition and wondered how much it is worth. |

This doesnt look too bad-are the bearings tight and the compression still good? Flywheel is wrong- this appears to be valve shutoff Gene Hackman was trying to hold onto in The Poseidon Adventure. The real flywheel was wide wheel about the width of a small bicycle. Also there was a brass muffler. It does appear that somebody did try to add a little zip to get extra power out of this machine-like feeding steroids to a turtle. Carb looks strange but is correct. About 5 years ago a complete 1915 Koban with the correct flywheel and complete muffler sold for $1450 US. In the high holy days of big spending the last few years, these engines unrestored were going for $2500-3000. Not any more with the economy down the tubes and money being tight. I don't think antique engines are part of the stimulus package, alas. I would suggest try ebay and set a reserve for $1500 and see what transpires. just a thought. |
