Hello,
I have a 1967 Chris Craft Constellation with twin 427's. The starboard engine was over heating. I replaced the impeller and removed all of the pieces from the hoses and the entrance to the oil cooler. I also removed the thermostat and tested it. It tested fine. The engine is still over heating when I get up around 2000 rpms. If anyone has any suggestions I would sure be happy to listen.

Thanks in advance for any ideas any one may have.
Mark

check ignition timing, and then check plugs for jetting. Ignition advance could be sticking from rust

Mark:It's been my experience on inboard engs that overheat around 2000 rpm and above, that the cooling water is restricted somewhere. First step
is to see if there are intake strainers, if yes,
then shut seacock off and take strainer apart and clean internally( most have screens inside)
run engine,if still overheating, dive overboard and inspect raw water intake, if it has holes or slots , make sure they are cleaned, also check up inside these intakes (mussels, snails, barnacles etc) grow and restrict flow, make sure its clean!while your under there make sure prop is clean.
if it still overheats post back here and we'll go to next steps. richard

Are you aware of the Yahoo Group for the Chris-Craft commanders? There is a wealth of info on these outstanding 427 marine engines and the Chris Craft vessels. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cccommander/
Check it out, check out the files section also. I have a pair of 427's in a 69 Commander35. I have not had high rev heating issues myself but have been almost everywhere else. I might suggest if you have no system blockage to check the thermostat "valve" operation (it is in the recirculating pump) also the sherwood raw water pump impeller, and seal condition. Kinks in rubber hoses also.

You don't need the balencer.Especialy if you have a big heavy flywheel.Just pull it off and throw away.Pull by the 3 bolt holes not the outside. The timeing marks are on the balencer, but the mark lines up with the keyway.

What size engines? Are you rebuilding them?

Hello All,
I am looking at a 1967 57' Constellation that needs a great deal of work. The boat has diesel's with a generator all run. The guy is asking 8800.00 he said it has to go. What is a ballpark value on something like this? I recently restored a 32ft 1972 Marinette.
I thank you in advance!

I'd think the engines and the generator are worth the asking price. God bless your optomism.
