I'm seeking any information on a Saunders two stroke twin cylinder marine engine that was manufactured at Crowe on the Isle of Whyte. I've already tried searching the web but with no success. This request is on behalf a friend here in Australia who is restoring one but hasn't got internet access. thanks Tim |

Tim and Paul... I am not familiar with that company, but sometimes boat builders would buy engines and put their own nameplate on the engine. This was commonly done in the US. |

Thanks guys. In the meantime I'll find out more background about how my friend came by the engine eg whether it came to Australia in a boat, a one off import, or distributed here. It will likely depend on how many hands it came through - I'll also find out if it is complete and whether someone can take a digital photo for the discussion board. I'll also talk to the blokes at the Sydney Heritage Fleet where I understand there are about 40 engines and many more being restored. thanks again Tim |

Today I went to our local book shop to browse in a couple of books on S.E.Suanders and Saunders Roe, as I expected nothing to suggest they made engines. I have also browsed on the internet, as I expect you have, much on them but no mention of engines. I expect Andrew is correct. If you could show A piture I expect somebody could identify it if it is a known engine. S.E.Saunders became Saunders Roe in 1929, and around 1960 (I think) Suunders Roe became Westlands. In the earley days they were involved in boats, then high-speed water skiming boats and sea planes. They made the boats used by Donald Cambell in the water speed record. They were definately pushing things forward. Engines used in some small boats were the Grey 4 stroke. They also used some very large and powerful Engines ,Rolls Royce etc. |

Paul, Thanks for the upadate. Yes, I did do another internet search after you gave me the correct spelling for the Isle, but didn't get anything other than as you mentioned. As you suggest I'll followup with the owner for a digital picture to post on OME. thanks Tim |
