I have read Weston Farmer's account of the Coyote II, which called for either a 10 hp or 25 hp engine (go figure). I am gung ho to build this boat, but not so gung ho as to build it without knowing what I'm going to power it with. He suggests a 25 hp Graymarine Sea Scout. I know this will be heresy on this forum, but I'd kind of like to have something smaller, lighter, quieter and well - cleaner. I am currently considering Kohler's Aegis, a water-cooled V-twin available in 22, 25 or 27 hp. It weighs only 114 lbs. But I can't find a transmission. All the new stuff I find assumes at least 100 hp. Can anyone direct me to a source of marine transmissions old or new? Any other opinions (without too much flame) would be welcome. |

Clif1f, I don't think we have had any flames here yet and a question like that certainly shouldn't cause any.... . Most of the transmission companies are consolidated now. The best place to check for new is: ZF Marine, they have a nifty selection guide and do show some low HP models. You also have to be concerned with RPM and the fit to your Kohler engine. If you are looking for used... you should detirmine what model you want... probably a Paragon and then post some "wanted" ads. You might have to buy and engine and transmission to get what you need... but you might be able to find it reasonalbly cheap. Paragon parts are available, mostly. I have various Paragon literature if you need it. ... good luck. Hopefully someone else can jump in with some help too. Regards, Andrew |

Find a fresh water cooled Palmer P-60. They have the classic Paragon OXKB reverse gear and most of the engine parts are available for the local IHC tractor dealer. Make sure it was fresh water cooled either with a heat exchanger if the boat it came from was used in salt water or if it came from Lakes area boat no problem. |

Check out this link. They are pricey but are very much like the old Joe's Gear. http://www.gsmai.com/snpt.htm/ |
