Help identify this engine. It is a twin cylinder T Head engine with a third cylinder in the middle with the carb on top of the middle cylinder.

Very interesting engine! Some of the castings and the cam follower housings look very Wisconsin. Can you post some more detail pics of the cylinders etc? Cheers, Lew "The West coast Sterling Guy" |

Is it possible that the third or center cylinder is an air compressor? With the pictures provided, I see a single valve for the center area. Maybe an atmospheric intake and mechanical outlet or exhaust valve. Interesting? Cheers, Lew "The West coast Sterling Guy" |

* Maybe "Aster Motor" they were a french mfgr with a U.S. branch, none of these seem to be the exact model but the design of crankcase and mounting arms etc look close ?? 1906 1905 * |

I saw a 4 cylinder engine that looked like this in a fire truck at our car show this year made by American La-France and I think it was air start ? |

* Louie That's some engine, looks in excellent condition ! The 1906 ad above has a shaft driven blower on it, on your last photo I can see a shaft support and an opening in the gear box, also a housing inbetween the throttle controls that it probably connects to ??? Supercharged ? No water pump visible so this may be a vehichle application ? * |

That middle cyl. looks to be a smaller diameter. This could be a compressor, or a dedicated air starting cyl. Sometimes the compressed air is used to help atomize the fuel at low speeds on certain engines. Have you looked at some of the early Renault engines from France? |

Hi Lou, Lew here! I agree with Richard, some engine! I have seen a lot of different engines and appliances on them. But this one has me stumped. Do we know what the lever does that is exiting from the half round brass housing near that center valve on the crank case? By chance does it unload that valve? My guess is that the opening in the timing case cover and the bearing support is for a water pump with the feed pipe to the cylinders missing as well. Cool toy!
