I think it would sometimes be helpful, if the general location of the person posting would be shown. In responding to a question or inquiry, the response could be different depending on where the individual is located.

Keith,
City, State/Province, and County are available fields for a user to include at registration or at any time if they choose to edit their profile. They are not required fields because some users seem concerned about supplying too much personal information.
The allowable fields at registration are shown here at the register link.
