Having come to the conclusion (fairly quickly) that the 8hp Penguin twin is a bit big for the 14' Payne Yellowtail... I've picked up a Blaxland Pup (shhh don't tell the wife).

It's an oldie and is equipped with a vaporizer. Every thing I've read says that these are more trouble than a carbie. Given I'll be using the boat, I'd like it to be less trouble, rather than the alternative.

I've tracked down someone who has several - but, as he said. What size?

Hi Ian
Either Mike or brett should be able to tell u. In my honest opinion any alpha (schleber) will do the job well. Even though the Model D apparently comes in two sizes,
3/4" and 1", i do not think it makes a difference which one u use. On the model sxt Blaxland it shows a Schleber carburettor but it doe not state which size. If u want me to send u the info about the D carby and/orthe SXT detail sheet email me . [email protected]
BTW your penquin carby would do the job quite well.

Hi Ian,
An Alpha (Schebler) "D" series 3/4 inch carby will do the job. You can use the Inlet Manifold from the Vaporiser to mount the Carby on.

If you wish to get rid of the Penguin I am interested, as have a boat to suit. Ring me on 02 49751136 or email [email protected] to discuss.
By the way, you beat me by 20 minutes on the Yellowtail. Lovely boat. You will enjoy it. There was one at last weeks Tweed Heads Regatta. It also ran a Blaxland Pup and went really well.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks guys

Dave - I'll give you a call tomorrow if that's OK - I got way-laid to the pub by my wife and another woman (a very, very rare event) - and we got talking boats, which was a good thing.

If it isn't too late for you Dave - call me on 9651 2408 - otherwise, as I said - I'll call you tomorrow.

As Dave said a 3/4 alpha will do the job,but
make sure the air valve spring is the right weight
otherwise you will have a whole new world of problems, the 1 inch carbs were found on 10/12
Simplexes and the like,so fitting one of these
would not help much on a pup(bit like a quadrajet
on a Mini)

I am also interested in replacing the vaporiser on my 4 1/4 Chapman. I don't have any problems with the vaporiser, but I would prefer a system that didn't drip petrol until it started - bit of a fire danger I think. Years ago we tried several old carbies but they were not as good as the vaporiser.

Could any one tell me of a suitable Carbie?

John,
The 4 1/4 needs a 1" Alpha D series Carby. It will fit straight up to the Vaporizer Manifold.
The 3/4 is too small to run on this motor.
