I was going to jump in on the Waterman B2/K2 discussion, but I don't know what these are so I thought this would be a better place. This one is pretty rough. Vent hole in the crankcase isn't factory! Small 10" flywheel, intake ports are threaded, one exhaust flange is angled while the other is vertical, no keeper ring on the copper jackets, shaped strap on the top of the cylinders, pump appears to be an afterthought. Any ideas?

My theory was this is a K2 Waterman that had the copper jacket clamp bands corrode away and someone replaced the piston pump with a home brew rotary. You can almost see where the flat space for the piston pump is. I'll keep looking |

In the first photo I almost see the pump eccentric..... |

The flywheel is like my early Waterman single, the later engines had the wide-thin rimmed flywheel, an improvement that made them easier to grab when starting. I have a twin with a timer and bracket like this, no tag. The water pump on my twin is a piston type, it bolts to a bracket. I thought it was an addition but I saw another with the same setup. |

Thanks Tom & JB for the help with this one. I haven't yet figured out how the jacket seals to the casting. Here is a close-up, it appears to just disappear into the casting. What about this little 2 cylinder on a pumping unit? Had a small rectangular plate soldered on the front of the first can. The radius on the top of the jackets is a lot sharper than the engine above. What are your thoughts on this one?

Well, no feedback on that one, so we'll try one last engine. This one has nicely shaped manifolds and a different base/mounting design. Any help on identification would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a twin (apart) that I assume is a K2 but no tag and a fire pumper twin with no tag. They both have some manifold and cooling line similarities to these but.....no tag. The manifolds on this latest engine look like the K2 stuff that Dick Alcott posted on the B2 thread. I have an Arrow Xerox phamplet type catalog that seems to say that Arrow built the Waterman K2??? |

Hi All, I have attached pics of my two cylinder copper jacket engine. It is a Fairbanks Morse Fire Pump serial #445 (see tag pic). I have also posted a scan of the original add in the F-M General Catalogue #25(from 1925), my engine is very similar except for the gas tank mounts - the add shows strap metal and mine are cast aluminum. In Blair's previous post his engine clearly has a spoke flywheel, this one has solid wheel with an aluminum shiv for cord starting and the rope can be wound in either direction. This feature would not be needed in a fire pump application, but it sure would be handy in a marine one! So my question is does anyone recognize this power plant as have been marketed anywhere for marine applications? Also besides the F-M tag with the serial # this engine has remenents of 2 other tags, on either end of the gas tank it looks like the remenents of a Briggs and Stratton tag, and on one of the copper jackets there is a completely unidentifiable remenent of another tag. Can anyone fill in any info on what these tags might be? One other thing, I am missing half of the coupling link to engage the pump if any one has one. |

My pumper looks the same except I only have the engine and mag. It was mounted on a nice home made wooden "thing". No tank. No sign of any decals. My exhaust is just two stubs of brass pipe open at the ends. Thanks for the photos. (I don't have a trace of the coupling) Tom |
