I have a Chrysler Crown 6 cylinder engine and I am trying to figure out its age. It is A S M7 #33141.
The carb is a Zenith S639B. Per thecarburetorshop web site this carb was used in 42-43. I know the carb doesn't guarantee engine age but it is all that I have to go on at this point. This was during WWII. Were there a lot of personal watercraft being built during the war? Could this engine have been used in something military? Just curious at this point. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks |

My 46 book shows an industrial 6, 230ci years produced 44and45.Aparently they were still selling a similar model in 58 with a differant model number.The old ads in the 46 book say an engine with a pedigree and show a team of horses pulling something.No mention of crown. |

I have a Chrysler Marine Engines index that shows the M7 Crown starting with serial number M7-6401 on 6/27/41 and ending with M7-34664 on 1/30/48. Your serial number is certainly near the end of the range, so I would guess it was 1947 or 48.

I have two Chrysler Crown Marine engines
251 ANR 30--103--120 /and 129 sitting
in a 1940 US army bridge erection boat.
One ignition distributor housing/cap(fancy looking)is missing.Would anybody know where
to get replacement parts (for this and any other)

I have a Chrysler Crown Marine Flat 6 on a 1946 Truscott Sport Fisherman (Type S M6 Serial # 16409, Head E-58636-M-Z-11-1). While the manual states that it originally had a Zenith S-639, it currently has a Carter BB-2. I am looking for a bowl and float or a rebuildable carb. Anyone have any ideas? |

Our vessel the Governor Stone was built in 1877, but was fitted with a Chrysler Crown Marine engine between 1942 and 1946 when in the hands of the U.S. War Shipping Commission, so the engines were certainly used in the military! Ours was replaced in 1989. I was just searching for information on the engine when I found this discussion board. View our website www.GovStone.com. Can you tell me what sort of speed you might get out of a schooner such as this with that engine. We suspect they were tracking submarines off the Gulf Coast. |

Roughly, the speed of the displacement hull of that length and shape would be in the range of 9 - 10 knts.
Adding more and more power would make it go faster but it would become very inefficient i.e. you'd have to carry a of of fuel and the engine would become heavier as well.
I expect that typical sailing speed in good wind would be 6-7 knts

I have a 1946 Chrysler Crown flat head 6 cylinder S M-7 SN#27764 marine engine that I am trying to rebuild. I am looking for any service manuals as well as any part manuals that might be out there. Anyone know where I might be able to locate such manuals? |

I have a Chrysler Marine Engine from the 50's. The boat was built in 57 so the engine is probably the same . It's a 6 cal flathead and the only no.s I can find on it are on the head E-559-M-2 N-1 Can anyone tell me if this sounds like the serial no., and where I might get parts for it. I need 1 exhaust valve for sure. Any info would be appreciated. Tom L |
