I have just secured a Gideon Upright Single Cylinder Diesel engine circa 1904. It is a hot tube. It seems to be Dannish in Manufacture and originally came from a schooner and was then used as a power plant for a sawmill. Does anyone have any information and or manuals on this engine? Any and all leads considered. Thanks. |

Well it arrived on Thursday this week of August and at over 4000 pounds I couldn't move it off the trailer with my little fork lift. Because of that fact I took it up to the Reynolds Museum show in Wetaskiwin and it was of certain interest. Many had never seen such a large marine engine before and certainly this far inland. It was also my first unwrapping and I got to see first hand what would be involved to get this further restored. I need alot of information so anyone who has anything about this engine please email me at leo at engineutopia dot com. The oiling systems should be the easiest to replace as fittings and tubing is mostly what is missing. I will need two oilers for the sides. I would love to replace the injector and the pump but I am finding that unless I make the trip to Denmark myself (which I intend to do next year) It will be next to impossible to find the parts. This seems to be a very rare engine indeed. |

Well folks, looking for parts. I need to find the oilers (2 on the cylinder head), oil slinger, tag, water pump, govenor cover and control lever, and blow torch for this. I also would like to restore the injector and the fuel pump to original. Although it is free and can be run... I need to go through it more carefully to ensure that it is in the best condition for use. |
