Looking to find what block I have from Hercules. The serial number is QXLDB 2893937. Any help is appreciated. |

The model number is the letters in the number. qxld 236ci 3 7/16bore 4 1/8 stroke. |

I was hoping to find out what series of motor it is. I know that my boat is supposed to have a KLC series motor in it. |

It is a QX series engine, they made 3 differant size engines in this series. So far klc does not show in my books. Do you know what year it was made? I would be very suprised to find an L as the second letter. No k's show either. |

Where would I find the year that the block was cast? As of now, the block is tore down to just the block. So I should be able to find fairly easily. |

I have not worked on a QX engine, but on other series the casting marks are just above the oil pan on the right side. Some engines will have a date stamped on them on a flat spot on either side if they have no casting marks. The day/month is often reversed in the casting marks. |

The Chris Craft KLC engine is based on one of the varieties of the Hercules QX series block. The KLC actually uses the QXLDMB block but can also use the QXLDB block. I have seen them marked each way.
This block has a 3.4375" bore X 4.25" stroke for a displacement of 236.6 cid. They were originally made with Zollner pistons. Compression ratio is 7.52:1.
The KLC is rated at 120 HP @ 3800 RPM and 180 Ft/lbs of torque @ 3000 RPM. In CC dress she weighs 703 lbs.
Most all parts are available.

Chrylser used their own engines. In many early cases, they were Dodge auto engines converted to marine application. But Chrysler had a large marine division for years.
Hercules built engines that Chris Craft and others marinized.

There should be a small disc on the carburetor the size of a dime. What are the numbers on it? Since it is tore down does the cam have 1823 on it? |
