I have a 6 cylinder Hercules, 1953, KLC, 120 h.p. The engine had been rebuilt 4 years ago, new bearings and all, yesterday, as I was running it I noticed the oil pressure gauge dropped. I thought the gauge crapped, heard no unusual noise from the engine or nothing strange. I came home, put another gauge right at the engine, started it up, went to 25 lbs. on start up, then after 30 seconds, fell to nothing. Is this a main bearing problem of maybe a pump. Sounds to me maybe its pushing past the bearings. I noticed a little bit of oil spray outside the engine on the generator, the starter and where the remote oil filter is attached by the water pump. After seeing that I thought that the line going to the mechanical gauge was leaking, but after putting a gauge right there, I saw nothing and still had no pressure. |

I suddenly lost oil pressure on my Gray a few years ago and discovered my mechanical fuel pump gasket was leaking gas into the base-oil level was higher than normal and the oil was as thin as water-gas fumes were a give away on that one..... |

It could allso be a preasure relief valve stuck open or there may not be enough restriction in the oil filter causeing too much oil to flow there. Some of the old herks had the relief valve on the outside where you could service it. Do you have a spin on filter or a sock in a can? The spin ons are prone to loseing the small restrictor in the base. |
