Hi
I have a sabb model G with a variable pitch prop on my boat. Recently it has been low on power, and having taken her out of the water I notice that I can easily turn the prop blades about 15-20 degrees with my hands. I wonder if the mechanism should be as slack as this, and if not whether that might be the cause of the low power problem. HAs anyone experienced a similar problem with these props? Any suggestions as to what might be the cause/remedy?

I have 10 hp sabb with v. p. prop..I have replaced motor with 35 hp motor and retained the 17 inch prop.The blades are firm but I amworried that the plastic thrust bearings inside may wear with increased load.Where can I get spares? |

Hi Rob and Marcus,
Sabb Motor, Norway is still producing this engine and has spares. These propellers need a lot of grease lubrication from the big grease cup placed inboard.
I guess the play in the blades (you did mean 15-20 deg pitch variation, Marcus?) is caused by wornout pitch control mechanism due to lack of lubrication.
May be a good workshop could make some additional bushings in the pitch control in the propeller.
You mentioned loss of power, has the RPM at full power been reduced as well? If yes, the engine has lost power because of overpitching due to wornout propeller.
To your info Rob, the same propeller was used on a 18 HP Sabb type 2H, 2100 RPM. The Sabb 2J (30 HP at 1800 RPM) used a 24 inch diameter propeller with a much bigger thrust bearing in the propeller boss (propeller head as we call it). Lubrication is important!

Found the problem - yes it is worn thrust rings in the boss. In the Uk these can be obtained from http://www.sleeman-hawken.co.uk/ Who seem to stock all sabb spares. Sabb has a list of their other agents around the world on their website www.sabb.no.

I have a brand new sabb G class 10 hp moter that my dad bought some 15-20 years ago that has never been used, just sat in the crat. I would like to sale it ? I also have anchores and a long chain ?

SABB 2H ENGINE- CLUTCH SEIZED
THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE STARTING PAW AND THE STARTING PAW ( G35J and G35i) came loose and the clutch U bolt must have sheared off the bolt and then the two items jamed the clutch. I have fished the two parts out of the clutch housing and everything seems fine ( I do not use the hand cranking system)
I am waiting for comments from Norway but would like to know if anyone has experienced this problem

I am looking for a variable pitch propellor for a Sabb 8HP (blades at least) boat came without the prop and I havent pulled it from the water to see what all is missing.
Located in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area)

can i replace my sabb 10 hp engine with say a perkins or a more common diesel and still keep the v pitch prop and shaft? |

I am designing jet ski pump for my own jet ski project.However I encounterd some problems ,
how to deicide the diameter and pitch of impeller with good efficiency.The 80 hp/4000RPM diesel engine will be used.The top speed targeted is 35knots, don't know if it is right target. found the prop calulator which can calculate the dia and pitch of propeller , but I think impeller's should be a bit different from the prop.
If there is anybody who knows how to calculate the impeller pitch and diameter ,please help . |
