I use Microsoft photo manager. I can resize them and post it for you if you like or you can try to do it yourself. [email protected] |

Looking for any information on the Clae F6 single cylinder four stroke marine engine.
Question.
Can the exhaust valve guide be replaced/. If so how?.
The engine is still going without the top half of the exhaust guide. A very forgiving motor.
Modifications.
The cast iron muffler is now stainless steel and the magneto converted to coil/battery ignition.
Anyone requiring useful data on the Simplex 5HP marine engine can contact me. |

A good engine rebuilders - the older the better - should be able to fix this for you. They would probably machine an existing guide to fit and find a suitable valve through their cross-reference books. Depending on the age of the engine it may well have Ford Model T valves etc. as many engine builders used these for ease of maintenance/replacement. You might want to show the valves/guides to people in the antique car world - again, the older the better! |

On most all of the older engines the valves and guides are reproduced (re-machined) from raw stock by the person restoring the engine or a good qualified machinist. If you don't have your own lathe and mill then it could get costly. Unless you know of a machinist that will do it for you cheap. You might be able to use valves out of a some car or truck engine, etc.. but I'm sure you would have to do some modifications in order to get them to work. |

Hi Edward ,I have a Clae six as well with stainless steel exhaust.Beautiful sounding putter.
Not mechanically inclined but I have some spare valves,springs tappets etc but don't know where to find a guide.Gather you're near me with user name Botany Bay, Sydney.
I have Simplexs as well.
