The nicely finished, round collar, brass pipe fittings that were made up until about 1920 are hard to come by. I need two 90's for a restoration, I have one brass and one nickel plated brass of the right size. Any suggestions for taking the nickel off short of a heroic buffing effort? I tried buffing using hardware store emery compound but it isn't aggressive enough (gave it a helluva polish though). |

Take it to a plating shop. They can reverse the electroplating process. |

Be cautions about dezincification of the brass, as that can leave a weak and porous metal. Why not over plate it over with the finish that you required. It only needs to be a cosmetic finish with the right look and the piece is already well protected. |

andys is correct Dont forget brass is an alloy of copper and zinc And zinc is what you use for an anode Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper and has a much better life span (ie hundreds of years) |

I apologize for taking so long to respond. The problem has partially resolved itself, I can't find the cussed thing now. Nevertheless, there will be a next time. I would like to try both methods. Thanks. |

That little nickle plated 90 showed up not more than 2' from where I last saw it!!!!!!!!! Came across it quite by accident. This aging business beats the hell out of the alternative but it sure causes a lot of frustration at times. |
