i have a gray marine tranny that will not go into forward gear. i believe it is a 1964 or 65, but there is no tag or noticeable serial #s that i can find. is there somebody who could tell me where to find some info on how to fix this problem or a manual/schematic. thanks |

If your grey marine tranny is anything like a twin disk (about the size of a V8 car engine and found in most fishing boats), it may have thows that lock the clutch in. If this has been sitting for any length of time the pivot points may rust up a little and keep the arms from rolling through and compleating thier lock and you need only remove the lid and work them back and forth with some areokroil or something. If it's a hydraulic tranny you may have an even bigger problem. |

thanks for the help. That seems to be what the problem is, but I havent had any luck freeing up the arms. would those joints feeze up during opperation? they do move some but not enough to lock into position. I'm kind of in a rough spot because my boat is in montana and their is no marine mechanics closer than Seattle. any help that you could give me would be very appreciated. thanks |

All I do is keep working them back and forth through thier cycle while pouring on the areokroil, just make sure they lock in all the way each time, even if you have to tap on them until they bottom completely and make the lock. They freeze up because they sit and rust without being used, they'll free up, be persistant. |
