I am in need of a flywheel for a 6 HP Lathrop Single. Can anyone help? HELP! |

Richard, I am not sure as of yet. I am new to this, however, I have a plan to go down to Mystic and take a look at some in their collection if Scott is OK with that. The engine in question does not have a cracked flywheel to measure from, it has simply been removed and is missing. Any nideas? I can send pictures if need be. Thanks, Brandon |

Richard The two Lathrop's we have 5HP. and the 6HP. are the same flywheels 17" diameter 3&3/8" 6 soaks. |

Well I have a flywheel on a Lathrop in my retirement home for old engines beyond repair. The flywheel has the classic round nut and finger holes around the rim. It was 17" in dia. and 4" thick at the rim. Unfortunately it is badly pitted and I expect you would have to take at least 1/4" down in diameter and probabley the same in width. I would have to cut the shaft behind the flywheel to get it off. I tried many years ago to remove the locking nut but didn' know which direction the threads went. Any idea on that minor detail. I think Brandon better look elswhere as I no longer have the strength to wrestle it off. He is welcome to it if he cannot find a better one but would be his job to come and get it. Didn't realize it was so badly pitted. Your call. |

Brandon, I sent you an e-mail. If you want the engine it is yours just come and get it. I will pick it up with our front end loader (all 350+ pounds) and set it in your truck or trailer and you can wrestle it in you spare time with good advice from Ernie and Scott or others in your neighborhood. |

Thanks Larry but the crux of the problem is how do you get the crankshaft out of the crankcase and how do you remove the unique Lathrop round nut on the outboard end of the crankshaft???
This flywheel isn't going to be turned in a 9X30 South Bend and I am in no physical condition to do it here. I think Brandon would be wise to take the whole engine and work with his local area guys who mess about with this stuff. Thanks again for the offer. regards, Dick |

I am in Taunton and if you are going to MD to pick up the Lathrop I have a huge Eagle that you can take to MD to replace the Lathrop in the "Day retirement home for old engines"
