You might want to check out Moyer Marine about a Zenith 68 series carburator. Moyer Marine specializes in Atomic 4 engines but some people with Palmer P-60 engines prefer the aluminium bodied Zenith 68 series to the original Zenith 61 series.

I have run into trouble using ethanol with a new Briggs & Stratton leaf vacuum. Last fall I forgot to drain the tank and aluminum carburetor and when I tried to start the engine I finally had to take the carb apart and the bowl was lined with tiny balls of corosion which had totally blocked the needle valve and idle jet. Apparently water collects in alchohol and the different metals act like a very nice battery. My son Jon is in the business of repairing commerical and home lawmowers and he told me they are running into serious problems with ethanol firing in high speed two strokes like chain saws, weed whackers, large drill and similar portable heav duty gas driven power tools. Seems the piston heads heat up and fire the lower octain rated charge which quickly destroys the piston. The ignition ins't firing the charge just the heat from the piston. He told me to switch to the mid range gasoline as it has no ethanol in it. Looks like to me the predictions regarding ethanol are beginning to show up big time. I wonder what ethanol will do sitting in a boat carburetor for long perids of idle use? Any thoughts???

I don't think the mid range fuel will solve the problem, it's usually a blend of regular and premium, done at the pump. Premium may not have the ethanol, I don't know for sure. Two fisherman here went to a local station at a chain store, filled their boats and attempted to go fishing. Neither boat would run, found the aluminum tanks had rusty water in them. They remembered the transport was at the station when they purchased the fuel, it probably stirred up the water at the bottom of the stations tank, the ethanol allowed it to mix. First call to the company said they allow 10" of water in the tank before it's considered a problem. They'll pursue it.

Not very encouraging JB. What a mess we seem to be building into the fuel supply. By the way the weather report locally for the coming weekend is looking much better tonight.

Thanks Larry I should have mentioned the Napa web site. I know of no source of Zenith 61 series carburetors but they are such a simple carburetor I don't see any advantage in a new one over a rebuilt one. One could try some of the carburetor dealers who advertize in trade magazines.
By the way are you going to be at the show this weekend.
