I'm looking to find out if there is a heat exchange unit that was made to fit the PW 27 engine. I'm looking to install a fresh water PW 27 in my sailboat and use it in a salt water environment. |

Ken try to find a used or new Sen-Dure Model 3BT-12-2P5. If you can find one for $300 if it isn't cracked or leaky grab it. |

Indigo Electronics makes an after market enclosed coolant system for Atomic4s. With a little adaptation I would think it might work for your engine. |

I have a Sen-Dure marine heat exchanger. 4"+ Diam. X 20" +, not counting the end caps. 1" pipe thread at each end, centered, and 1" clamp nipples on each end of the "shell". Copper with bronze caps,flanges,ten brass bolts per end, and two mounting brackets. It appears to have been repaired in the past at a local radiator shop as there are tags on it. Three tubes appear plugged/patched with solder. Castings appear sound.
I filled the shell (no pressure/ends off) and found that one tube leaked. This is a vintage/old unit and was in the cellar of a house I purchased from the estate of the late boat owner.
Likely a spare as the gaskets were missing and bolts only hand tightened. It is not painted.
Does it have any value in the boat/engine restoration realm. I was considering plugging the leaking tube with epoxy and using it in a non-marine application but I am concerned about ruining it. I would prefer it went "home" to a boat if there is life left in it, or it would fill out someones "period restoration". Trying to avoid that dreaded "Road Show Remorse".
Any advice appreciated! |
