Our friends at HMRC have been told by Brussels that the reduced tax rate of Deisel for marine use in the UK has to end soon.
There are a couple of issues in relation to old engines (apart from paying a 60% increase at £1.10 per Litre)
1) Many outlets it is thought may change over to ordinary road deisel (ULSD).
2) The UK government on the grounds of environmental issues are to phase out high sulphur deisel (current red deisel)which apparently Shell says is the same as House heating oil.
From what I have read sulphur is necessary for the lubrication of old engines such as my 1959 Lister JPM3 (like the lead additive in the old 4 star petrol).
Is this true and what effect does it have on the engines. Do we have to find an additive? |

I certainly will not be using white in my 1957 kelvin its been running on red for 50 years i think if i put white in it would clean everything out with all the super dooper additives they put in to road fuell and there would be some severe knocking i will carry on using red straight from the supplier for my "heating" hmc will not be sending gunboats up the cut in pursuit of me  |
