This was sent in by email, I have asked him to check the board for responses:
quote:Dear Andrew, I am looking to get in contact with anyone in Florida who may have a Kahleberg engine in running condition. I live in Florida and would like to learn how to run one. I understand that they require a propane tourch heater to the top of each cyclinder head and a compressed air source to flip them over and start them. I also underatnd that there is considerable skill involved and a lot of hand manipulation of fuel feed pumps, water cooling valves etc... to them going. Anyone in your group have any experience? Even if not in Floida...then I could at least quiz an operator over the telephone. What is the RPM required to start? What is the heating time required? What is the cyclinder head heated temperature at start up? What should it be while running? I need to get in touch with someone who knows how to run one. Thanks for your help, Ted Coyman [email protected]

There's a Kahlenberg at the Coolspring Power Museum that they run every year, I would try to contact them. They should be able to get you in touch with the guys that run it. |

Thank you JB. I will contact them. Mine is a 4 cylinder 90hp. It is 10' long and about 6' tall. It is a Model AF-10. The weight is 16,000lbs. It was running 2 years ago but that knowledge is no longer around. It looks to be in very nice condition and well maintained. I just need starting and operating details and to learn from another owner what expectations I should have with it. Thanks You. |

Ted, You can also do a search of this board for the word Kahlenberg and you will see various postings. You might find someone that you want to contact by email. Use the "search" link at the top of this page. |

One of the first things you want to do is learn how to stop it. A run away engine is always scary, one this size would be a nightmare. I think these are two cycle engines, if the cylinders are charged by crankcase pressure, you don't want oil in the base. The engine will run on this oil and won't shut off until it's gone. A CO2 fire extinguisher in the intake will shut it down with no damage, might be a good idea to keep one on hand until you're comfortable with it. |
