I was just going through some old photos and found this one. Is this a Palmer? Real nice looking engine, whatever it is. It was in a trailer at Coolspring back in 2005 or so. Blair.

Looks like a pre 1923 Palmer Model NR-2. There would be a diamond shapped puller nut on the flywheel if it was made in 1923 or later. The steel pipe oil feed through the crankcase suggest pre 1920. About 1920 they went to a copper tube outside the crankcase from the oil pump. The 1/2" NPT thread say pre 1922 as Palmer went to 7/8" 18thd spark plugs. The two plugs in the center of the cylinders don't belong there. Those 1/2"NPT had pipe plugs which you could take out and check the valves timing by measureing the distances to the piston head. Nice looking very complete engine as far as one can see. Wish I had the serial number. |

How large is the original photo? You might be able to zoom in to see the nameplate and serial number... |

Sorry, not nearly good enough resolution. I'll know better for next time. Three spark plugs per cylinder is a bit much... |
