Does anyone have any info relating to this simple engine with a thin aluminum water jacket? It has similar construction to the copper jacketed DisPro, Waterman, etc. but is considerably larger.

Hope someone can help,
Blair

The only company i've heard of that uses an aluminum water jacket is the Caron Engine Company of Montreal Que. The Caron was used in later 1930's dispros and did have an aluminum water jacket but that was all it had in common with your engine, looks wise.

Thanks for the response, Foxman.

I was wondering if maybe companies offered an aluminum replacement jacket during the war when brass/copper was scarce??

Just a thought. Blair

I would have thought that during the War, aluminum would have been scarcer than copper - ahhh - who knows.
I've checked with guys around here - none of them have ever heard / seen an engine like that.
The Caron's were cast aluminum I think - this one looks like it is spun.

You're probably right about the aluminum during the war, Miro. It's got us stumped.
Thanks,
Blair

The overall configuration certainly is very similar to the Dispro, except that that one could say the mounting flanges have been 'turned over'. Aluminum was much more fashionable in the the 30s than copper; art deco and all that, cheaper too. Looks like a pressing to me. A bit surprising to see a square headed bolt on the crankcase.

I had Paul D. - the Dippy Doctor look at the engine and - yes- it is very similar to the Waterman, DisPro, but he's never seen or heard of the engine in all his work. So it remains a bit of a mystery.
How did you guys come to get the engine?

Thanks for your help Gentlemen. Hopefully when someone finds the twin to this one, it will have a tag on it somewhere. We picked it up locally last fall with a few other more common engines from a small collection.
