I am a new member of this discussion board and am in need of assistance. I own a 1961 wooden Century Ski Dart that came equipped with a Gray Marine V8-138. The engine # is S6315. Fireball 138 hp is on the valve cover. The distributor is a Mallory Electric 429C. I need a rotor, condenser, and points for this distributor. While looking at the Mallory web site I cannot find a matching distributor number. Hence, I have no idea of how to order the components I need. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Spencer

If you are lucky enough to still have a NAPA or other real Auto Parts store in your area you could take your parts there. That is if they are willing to try to "match up" the parts. It seems that the auto parts stores that can or will try to "match up" a part are quickly disappering

I am a fairly new member of this discussion board and am in need of assistance. I own a 1961 wooden Century Ski Dart that came equipped with a Gray Marine V8-138. The engine # is S6315. Fireball 138 hp is on the valve cover. It appears that the engine may be seized as it won't turn over via the electric starter. I can hear the bendix try to engage but it apparently cannot turn the motor over. The motor was last run in the summer of 2004. It was then winterized and has not been run since. I know there is some way to try to try to turn a frozen motor by hand (wrench) but I do not know how on this marine motor as the flywheel is pretty close to the front seat back. I haven't remove the spark plugs yet nor have I poured oil in the cylinders.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Spencer

Try to get a large screwdriver in to turn the flywheel by the teeth. If it moves freely the problem in the starter.

I am a fairly new member of this discussion board and am in need of further assistance again. I own a 1961 wooden Century Ski Dart that came equipped with a Gray Marine V8-138. The engine # is S6315. Fireball 138 hp is on the valve cover. It does not have a cracked block. It appears that, after sitting up 3 years, the engine is seized as it won't turn over via the electric starter. I can hear and See the bendix try to engage and try to rotate the flywheel gear but it apparently cannot turn the boat motor over. It is my guess that the starter is ok. I also have taken the plugs out and tried a penetrating oil for a few days but that did not help.I have taken the back of the front seat off in and effort to get to and rotate the flywheel. I have been unsuccesful in manually turning the flywheel. My main question now is: I see that in the center of the flywheel, toward the front of the boat, there is an area that has been cast with three flats in the casting that, if I had the correct insert, I could prehaps get a long bar attached to the correct insert and turn the engine. I have digital pictures of the center of the flywheel but connot send via this medium. Any and all ideas I would appreciate. I can send the digital pictures via regular email if you would like. Many many thanks, Spencer

Hello: I have a 1961 Wooden Century Ski Dart with an (American Motors) Grey Marine V8-138 Fireball with side draft carb. OUESTION: I have access to an American Motors Grey Marine V8-188 Fireball with dual side draf carbs. Can I essentually just drop the V8-188 engine into the boat in place of the V8-138? Many thanks for your input & comments. Spencer
