Suggest replacing water in lower unit with outboard gearcase oil C insert tube nozzle in lower unit lower oil plug and squeeze until oil comes out top oil plug. Before that you may need to replace pump impellor. Age and neglect may have contributed to its decline and that may be why no water is getting through. |

Sounds like it's been sitting a while. That vintage engine probably has the split case lower unit. Parts can be found. You probably will want to replace the seals, water pump impeller etc. Get a manual. All easy to do if you are slow and careful. Keep the bearings in place with grease when you reassemble. If by chance you find the empeller intact, there is a chance of a bad head gasket. That could pressurize the water jacket. But, my money is on the water pump. Oh, never, ever run dry, even a few seconds can take out a dry pump. Good luck! |
