This engine on EBAY (item #1782630617) looks like a forerunner for PW-27 engines. Book with engine shows it"s aircooled.
Mr.Day, is there a connection ?
Some one bought it with BUY NOW price.

I don't beleive there is any connection with the PW-27. It came out in 1957 when Palmer was looking for a cheaper way to produce a small inboard to replace the BH series which become too exspensive to produce. From the advertizing I have read I think Wisconson knew that a large number of watermen before WWII were using Briggs and Strattons and Wisconsins in 12-18 foot skiffs. When we were kids a 1 HSP Briggs in Stratton or a Wisconsin cost about $40.00. I have a cousin who had one in a 16 foot Bank Dory and it would run all day on a gallon or two of gas. I really think this was a Wisconsin product with no Palmer connection. I do know that when the water cooled cylinder on the PW-27 rusted out some individuals put an air cooled cylinder on the block which in turn created the myth that Palmer made air cooled marine engines. They did make a line of small four cycle air cooled bicycle motors at the turn of the 19th/20th century but they did not last long in the sales literature of the time. Ray Palmer made about 6 outboards using some of these motors about 1920. Apparently he gave them to friends as they never actually tooled up to make outboard motors. |

The ad says model AEM, but its really AEN engine.This is the smaller block series of engines than the palmer PW27 they used AEH blocks.The gearbox does not seem to sit down lower than the engine like the one on my AHH which has a Wisconsen reverseing and reducing gearbox. |
