Good afternoon.

We have a Sabb 18HP (2HG) in our 27' Newfoundland Dory.

After a lay-up of several months we have found that the water circulation jacket is blocked.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could advise whether there is a solution that may be added to the jacket that may dissolve what we presume is a build-up of rust / salt deposits.

Many thanks,

I had the same type of problem on a Yanmar SB12 (also raw water cooled). A reliable Yanmar dealer in Coco FL told me to use RydLyme Marine, see www.rydlymemarine.com. I haven't been using it long enough to know if it is really working, since I had already removed the exhaust manifold and cleaned out the water passages.
You can install a Y in the raw water intake for adding the chemical (or fresh water). You might need to leave the sea cock open so that you don't put excessive pressure on the water pump. Have your engine at operating temperature, otherwise the thermostat won't be open. Good luck!

I have a question for you. What do you think of the SAAB? A friend of mine wants me to replace my 12 HP Yanmar with his H2 (which he replaced with a 40 HP Yanmar). It seems that the engine length is going to be real tight. Thanks, Ben Killingsworth
