Hi all,
I just rescued this twin cylinder Hercules engine - at least I think it's a Hercules - from the scrap metal heap. It has what appears to be a light seize, and the ignition is missing. Overall it's restorable, I think, or useful as a parts motor. I'm trying to find out more details about it, and also possibly to find a good home for it. Free sounds realistic, if someone is willing to come to Littleton MA to pick it up, though I'm inclined to keep the reversing box for another project.
I'm stupid enough to restore it on my own if no one wants it, just because it looks like it should be restored. But I need to know how hard parts, etc. will be to get.

Sam,
I looked at the engine in a garage of a house in Natic a month or so ago.
It is a Herc. You might list it on Harrys page as that block was used in some John Deere tractors.

As you say it is missing the ignition and fuel systems as well as the water pump. The reverse gear is made specifically for that engine so you will need to fabricate parts. I didn't bother with is as it is to new for my intrests.

Thanks Ernie, that's the one. I have a hard time seeing things like this go to waste, so I had to go grab it when he told me it was going to the dump. I'm sure I'll find a home for it. |
