Hello, I need the firing order for a 1978 ford 302 standard rotation marine engine. Also if someone could tell me the proper spark plug gaps for this engine I would be most grateful.
Thanks for the help.

It should be 15426378, 1234 on the right looking from the trans, 5678 on the left.

Thanks Jb, just to clear things up for myself...The first and fifth cylinder are closest to the trans,(rear) on the marine blocks, like in my crude diagram? Or is it the same as auto blocks and the first and fifth are closest to the front(pulley) side of the engine. Thanks for your patience with me.

Number one would start from the pulley end.

JB, The numbers of each cylinder should be raised
cast-in numbers on each intake runner leading to each cylinder close to the head?

If you can get a two gear drive instead of the chain, a reverse starter, and reverse water pump you should be ready.

many pre-war and WWII boats did this for simplicity, so yes. You will have to get used to the way that the stern kicks over and will find it much easier coming alongside one side rather than the other. depending upon your hull and VCG, especially if a narrow deep-V then the torque in the same direction may noticibly heel the boat over.

Standard rotation on a Ford V8 is CC while facing the engine from the front.
