Does anyone know at what temperature a thermostat opens on a petter ph2w, to purchase from a petter parts agent they are silly money so one from a car parts outlet might do if i know the operating temp. |

Hello Martin.
I never noticed your post regarding the thermostat.
Incase you didn't find the answer, the thermostat should start to open at 155/165F(68/74C), and it should be fully open at 185F(85C).
I'd be interested to hear how you've got on in locating one, as my engine overheated when we test ran it the day before yesterday, so it looks as if I need another one too. My donor engine sadly doesn't have one to donate.
I googled the details stamped on my thermostat, but nothing came up.
Who was the agent selling them, in case I have to go down that route?

Hi Doug, my thermostet was totally caked in corrosion, so i intended to replace it but i cleaned it up and it worked fine.
I got a quote on one from A.T Wilde in shropshire ([email protected])for £27.99 which i found expensive, surely a standard car thermostat would do.

Hi Martin. Thanks for the details.
I don't know enough about thermostats. I guess if it fits in the housing and opens at the correct temperature then it will do.
My one, when we tested it yesterday, started opening at 85C rather than 68/74C, which I assume is what happened when we test ran the engine. We ended up with very hot heads and a slight blow from the joint of the head that we'd previously removed. We re-tightened the head and took the thermostat out, and then test ran it again, and all is fine. I will now fit a temperature guage, though!

I got one from Tony Redshaw at Braunston which i thought was dear at £6.50. |
