I am trying to learn about the use of Alkaline Sulfite to remove or neutralize the salt which has become embedded in the porous cast iron in many of these old marine engines. I understand it is the best method for preserving cast iron which has been exposed to salt water. Does anyone have knowledge of this process or know were it can be found? Is it practical to do in a home workshop? Is it cost prohibitive? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff Miley |
