I have a question about the function of a part of my engine. On the photo below, there is an air inlet left of the sprocket. On top of the ilet, there is a small red "cap". I am wondering what it's purpose is, when i feel inside the inlet, there's a little iron tube that goes into the engine.

The there is another wuestion, what could be the best way to start this engine? It eventually does start and sounds regularly, but the amount of energy i have to put in slinging the flywheel around is horrific. Does anyone have a solution for my problem?

It is most likely to add some engine oil to make starting easier. Usually 1 squirt from a pump oil can is just about right.
Hope this helps

Seems to me most hand start diesels have a compression release so you get it spining and the hit the compression release.

Beste Joost,

Groeten, Simon.
