Anyone have a manual or scans of a 4 cylinder VanBlerck Jr? It is from the 30's (guess) all aluminum with 4 valves per cylinder and overhead cam. Bore is ~3". Starting another project.....this one needs the tranny/reversing gear. I removed most of the manifolds/distributor. Says it was manufactured in Red Bank, NJ- water cooled exhaust- definitely marine. |

I used to have one of those engines. I bought it from Guy Lombardo's former raceboat mechanic. It was the engine that the Van Blerck's took to boatshows.
There is an ad with a picture of Joe Jr carrying the engine!

Andrew- THANKS a bunch for posting the photos!! It will sure help in ID'ing a output box if one comes along. What a neat engine. This is going to need a lot of TLC as it is stuck from sitting for 40+ years. ~4-8 of heli-coils needed as many of the screws broke off getting them out. The one in the boat has the same exact distributor as this one does; a Delco. I'll bet she was a screamer in her day.... The head was a bear to get off as the head casting was frozen to the center 2 head studs. Want to get it up on a stand soon. If you ever run into a drive for this one please let me know. What sort of carby do you reckon it had? |

Paul,
That engine was also marketed as "The Fay & Bown Rocket". I have a January 1932 ad showing it as such.
I also have in my notes that I spoke with a guy in FL that had one and those notes mention a Zenith updraft carburetor, but no model number. |
