I am trying to ID a Ford V8 Marine engine I need to rebuild. I think it is from the late 50's or early 60's. The bore measures 4.030" and the stroke is about 3.650". Any help would be appriciated.

By my calculations, it's a Ford 372.
Ford 372: Ford 351W block with 4.030" bore, can use either Windsor or Cleveland heads, with 351W crankshaft offset ground to a stroke of 3.640". Utilizes a 6.2" aftermarket connecting rod.

Late 50's Early 60's would be either the 312 block or the 360-390 block. I don't remember the bores, does the valve cover have 2 nuts in the center, 312, or bolts around the perimeter, 360-390 block. The 360 had a huge intake manifold that went half way into the head, the head was narrow.

the engine is a 383ci M-E-L found in the 56-57 Lincoln Continental. Google 'the ford-edsel-mercury (m-e-l) engines' for dave williams page on these motors

Lincoln Y-block has 4 transverse ribs on each valve cover, 1 in front of and 1 behind each stud ( 2 studs per valve cover ). Intake and exhaust valves are far apart ( about 2.5 inch stem center to stem center ). Valve arrangement E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E.
