The other one, the owner assures me is a marine engine. It has a brass plate on the block with Labor in raised letters also it has a gear type circulating pump driven off the camshaft. I also am sure I have come across that brand too. I am sure your wizards will identify both quite quickly.

The first engine is a Gray "R" crankcase with a ???? for a cylinder. Also the flywheel is ?????
What the second one is I have no idea. |

the second engine is a felix. the one I restored had the base the other way round. it wasn't used as a marine engine either,it was used as a chop chop engine on a cane farm in north qld Australia.

Thank you, Killer. I have just been browsing in "The Classic Twin Cam Engine" by Borgeson and was interested to see a few pages devoted to the Labor Automobile and Aircraft concern which appeared to make cars and engines in France up to 1910 (none twin cam).
Now, I am sure that you are right about the engine being anything other than a Labor because that ID plate is rivetted on and not cast into the cylinder.
It does raise some questions about why someone would want to rivet a plate with the name Labor on to an engine in an obscure part of the world.
Could you post a pic of the Felix that you have?

YOU WILL HAVE TO TELL ME HOW TO POST A PIC. I'M FAIRLY NEW TO THIS WEB STUFF! ONE REASON I HAVE BEEN TOLD FOR REBADGING FELIX ENGINES IS BECAUSE THEY WERE OF GERMAN DESIGN AND/OR MAKE AND WERE A BIT HARD TO MARKET DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR BUT THIS DIDN'T SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE BOSCH MAGNETO'S FITTED! I HAVE SOLD MY ENGINE TO A BLOKE IN MELBOURNE WHO HAS 70 PLUS FELIX ENGINES (SINGLES & TWINS)! ANOTHER SCORCE ADVISED ME THAT 'FELIX' WAS CAST ONTO THE WATER JACKET AT MANUFACTURE BUT USUALLY GROUND OFF SALE IN AUS. YOU SHOULD FIND MOST THREADS ARE METRIC SIZES.
