The following came in by email. It would seem to me that the shipyard shown is a different Palmer due to the size of the vessel under construction, but I thought we could post it here and see if anyone can help...

I think it is Mystic. Seems to me there was a Palmer yard there at one time. The building looks like what was eventually Franklin Post Boatbuilders. Also the boats are too big for what Palmer did in Cos Cob. It can't be Mianus as there just wasn't enough water there for ships of this size. |

If Ernie's hunch is right you could contact Mystic Seaport Museum.
Someone there would have an index of all the past shipyards in Mystic. |

Here are some pics from the web of the Palmer Yard in Noank, CT. Note the chimney in the painting and in the picture.
They came from CT history on line and show copyright from the Mystic seaport.

Thanks, Andrew & Ernie! You guys are awesome. Great research. I am now quite sure that the scene is the Palmer Yard in Noank. I was hoping for Cos Cob for sentimental reasons,( I grew up there and kept a 12' skiff in the Mianus in the early 60's and you are right Ernie, there is not enough water there!)Anyway, the artist painted in both Cos Cob and Mystic. You guys have a great group & keep those old Palmers alive. Thanks, Chris |
