I've been asked to sell these engines on behalf of a friend and am looking for any information which would help with their identification/valuation.

They are a pair of identical twin cylinder diesel engines. They date from circa 1940 and are thought to have been fitted to a boat which crossed the channel as one of the 'Little Ships' during the war (i do remember seeing the certificates to support this but they seem to have been lost), this is partly supported by the next service plate dated 1954! There is a gearbox, bronze prop and shaft and flywheel with them as well as an exhaust.

One engine is certainly fitted with a starter handle and has good compression (it was also started a couple of years ago, ran strongly and proved difficult to stop!). I've been told they are possibly Coventry but i cannot find a makers plate on the accessable sides (there is a serial number plate but has only that stamped on), they are currently supporting a shed so i'm loathed to disturb them too much if that is their best future role!

Any information will be appreciated and i've got more photos if anyone wants to see.

You might need to post a larger photo.

I tried to post it full size but it asked for it to be less than 100Kb! If the one i've posted is no good i'll ask my girlfriend to re-size it again for me, please let me know. Thanks

alex,

100 kb is a large file. You were probably reducing the size in "pixels" but not the file size in "bytes"... also can be called the resolution in some photos editing programs.

Hi Alex. Yes looks like you have a pair of Cub diesels. Copy & paste this link and there are a couple of pages on these engines. http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/CubDiesel/CubMenu.htm

These were made in various forms by various manufacturers, and I think the last firm to have the license was Coventry Victor (A.N.Weaver) although they apparently never manufactured them. Coventry Victor as a company still exists on the Isle of Wight..see.. http://www.coventryvictor.free-online.co.uk but no info on these engines unfortunately.

I have one of these beasts lurking in my shed and have had it running, a bit clattery and smokey but still a very interesting engine. As regards value..I did see a cub that looked in very good condition sell for £200 on e bay a few weeks ago. Regards Dave F

Thanks for the link Dave, that info looks great, i'll have a proper look in a second. Maybe i'll stick the pair on Ebay for £200 with the gearbox, exhaust and prop and see what happens. Any ideas what kind of boat it'd be most suitable for? Many thanks, Alex.

Hi. I'm new here but I wanted to make sure I posted this before the auction ended. Search ebay auction number: 320086038626. Complete running unmolested Atlas Imperial 40SX6 diesel. It's in a White-Superior genset taken out of NASA. Some guys out there must be pulling their hair out trying to find parts for these great old diesels. Thanks Jim.

Could somebody please give me some info about Leyland TX2OO, a 6 cylinder marine engine? This
was fitted on a Triton 31 hull, very similar to the fairline sunfury.
