It is actually a pump engine that someone "converted" to marine. The castings were the same but the marine would have had a plunger water pump on the rear (the boss on the casting is there for it). The timer shaft and bevel gear etc. is original, but the distributor may not be... aparently the marine version had a magneto in the flywheel. Carburetor is the same. Based on the serial number it is a 1924 engine. Not to make a sales pitch on the discussion board... but as a way to demonstrate how we can link from here...  it is for sale if you know of anyone who is interested.

Mark,
A good place to start is, what is the dia of the flywheel? Also if you have a pic or pics that can be posted here that would help. If you need help posting the pics just forward them to Andrew or myself.

Informatin wanted on Detroit Engine Works, one cylinder Marine Engine. 2 stroke? Brass fittings and brass water pump, 15 inch flywheel, dark blue green appears to be original color.Dated around 1909? |

I just inheirited an Acadia 3hp and a 4-5?hp Imperial. The Acadia has no plate but looks just like the one on the Acadia home page. It seems to have good compression (at -20C) and with all the great info at this site I should be able to fix up the ignitor system. The Imperial is another story, it's siezed, got a big chunk of metal broke off the exhaust casting, and has something (water pump?)missing off the front. I'm guessing it's from Stewart, Bruce & Co. Ltd. as I'm next door to PEI. I'm going get a foto once I figure the camera out. |
