Does anyone know of somone that could restore two tags off of a 1948 Gray Marine 160 Fireball. They have a raised cromed edge and wording with a black background. Some of the wording is very small. |

If the tags are flat ( or make sure they are), you can try this. Carefully prepare the surface and paint it with very thin coats of black spray paint, letting each one dry thoroughly. Once the paint is dry, very lightly start skiffing the surface with a very fine emery cloth backed by a wad of soft cloth. Eventually , you'll wear though the paint on the raised portions of the tag, but the background will remain untouched. You'll need to be very gentle and very patient. If you find that you've worn though a spot that ought to be black, you can re-flatten the section and repaint it and start over. miro |

A similar technique is to paint the tag (after flatening)and then use something like old fashoned ink blotter stock (it's kind of heavy). The blotter is soaked in thinner which is rubbed lightly over the raised parts of the letters to expose the brass. It's a "one pass" per blotter side and takes practice but it works. T |

400 grit emery paper at least, 600 grit would be better. |
