I recently noticed steam coming from the port engine on my boat. It is equipped with 318 Chryslers with fresh water cooling. The boat is equipped with a sea water alarm that goes off intermittently. The steam is mostly visible when fully warmed up and under a load. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks |

That sounds like a leak in the fresh water system. Is the primary cooling pressurized? an yo pressure test it? It will be a bit of a job to find the leak.

It has a small coolant tank on the top front of the engine with an automotive style radiator cap. My thinking is that in order to generate steam, sea water has to be leaking into one of the exhaust ports. Probably a cracked exhaust manifold. I was going to pull the manifolds on that engine and have a radiator shop check them. Thanks for your reply. |
