Go to Google and click on "more", then "even more" page, click on patent search. The neat thing is that they have indexed ALL the patents from #1 on up. Try searching the words "engine atlas oakland"(no quotes) and all the diesel stuff for Atlas comes up. I tried Engine Cos Cob conn and no palmer stuff came up. It can search by company, city and subject among other search terms. Very cool and passed from one of my stationary engine buddies. I have waited YEARS to be able to search them old patents like this... and yes Rebecca, there IS a Santa Claus! |

This is great. When I went to the Patent office back in about 1980 they had nothing prior to the 1970s retreivable on line. The only patents which the very helpful woman at the patent office came up with for Palmer Bros. was the 1901 inertial governor for the igniters on the models B, C, D and E and some exhaust manifold in the 1920s. Actually I have the patent issued to Ray Palmer and gave her its number and she pulled it out of the books right away. Those books were in terrible condition and there must have been a good 100 plus volumes and each was a good 2" thick. thanks for the tip Paul and Andrew. Will have to get with it. |

Now, if I could just figure out how to get a full page at a decent resolution and save it as a JPEG file! |

When the patent comes up left click on the page or illustration until its in its largest form then right click on it and a pop up should give the option - Save as - click on it and decide which file you want it in and save it.
Hope this works for you I have already found some long sought info and saved it! |

Hey guy's the google patent search was brought up on Harry's forum this past week. Once you get to the patent search page click on advanced search and you can search by month and year, etc...
I got to do this same kind of patent search on the computer about a year ago at the University of Central Florida's library through another search engine but it only lasted for about a week. They were testing some new software offered by a software company but they did not purchase it. The license cost about 40 or 50 thousand dollars. I couldn't believe that google would have this software. |

Note to people who search for patents. It might not be true for engines, but in the fruit jar industry, there was all sorts of mis claimed patents, dates, and info put on jars. companies would put patents that had nothing to do with the item on it, they would put false patents on, they would put other people's patents on items. They would put some minor patent from a factory machine on the item. they would put the same patent on every item they made, even years after it expired. this is probably why the patent office made companies put numbers down, instead of dates. |
