I have a Guiberson T-1020 9 cylinder radial diesel which has a bureau of shipping plate on it. I understand these were originally developed as aircraft engines. But were used in a variety of equipment incuding landing craft by the military in WWII. I would like to find a tech manual# TM9-1727 and a source for shells for the coffman starter.

ROBERT JOHNSON,
I think that same engine was also fitted as a power unit in the " STUART " light tank. Could you please advise me of which landing craft they were installed in?

I also havce a T-1020 that supposedly came out of a M3A5 "STUART' tank, then subsequntly it was used to power a small citys generator. After 35 to 40 years of use as both primary and back-up power supply it was literly thrown out back of the maintenance shed. In a fit of cleaning up, this engine along with many other metal pieces was hauled to the local scrap metal dealer from whom I aquired it two years later. It is missing all the accesorys including the starter adapter, sheet metal, governer or fuel control. The data plate says it produces 300 horsepower.
I have been told by many WWII machinests mates that this engine wasd also used in a landing craft. Not many of these vessles came back to the states, or so I am told.

Back in the early 60's I was in a warehouse in central Oklahoma. There were several crates containing military surplus Guibersons that were awaiting sale as stationary engines.

I HAVE A BASKET CASE GUIBERSON WITH MOST OF THE ACCESSORIES. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS OUT OF A TANK, FROM AROUND 1940. I AM CONSIDERING PARTING WITH IT, AS I HAVE TOO MANY PROJECTS AT THIS TIME.

The guiberson diesel engines were apparently fitted to stuart and grant tanks.
I know this because ny grandfather has one of these engines fitted to his old stuart tank, unforunately it isn't going at the minute but it should be soon
